Education and training
Even as I pursued a degree in engineering, my second focus during college was psychology. After graduating with a degree in engineering, I initially concentrated on the technical side of mechanical engineering. However, as my career developed, I discovered I enjoyed working with people more than the aerospace products my company helped develop. At the same time, I began a lifelong pursuit of personal discovery and growth. Relationships of all types fascinated me and I learned a lot about what made them succeed or fail, thrive or whither. In my 30s, I taught for a number of years at the American Youth Foundation where I created a relationships course for young adults attending the AYF's National Leadership Conference.
In my business life, I helped form an award-winning engineering consulting firm. In my role I led both the financial and business development teams and established an Employee Stock Ownership Program which benefited every employee. I am proud of the fact that during my tenure the company received numerous awards and recognitions, including NASA’s most prestigious quality award and the Wall Street Journal’s national award for Top 15 Small Workplaces.

As I turned 40, I began searching for another way to work with and help others. I trained as a mediator and continue to mediate disputes with the National Conflict Resolution Center. When I formally retired from engineering, I began to devote more time to volunteering with the local San Diego Humane Society and Challenged Sailors, a group that provides recreational adaptive sailing opportunities for individuals with a variety of special needs. All of these pursuits helped me identify coaching as an even better way to provide benefits to individuals who need support to set and achieve the goals that will bring them joy and success. The WCI seal signifies the formal training I undertook to become a certified professional coach.
In my personal life I have experienced both successful relationships and a divorce, achieved financial independence, raised two wonderful children, and fully recovered from an episode with cancer.
